We found this article on the BBC website showing an experiment back in 2009 where 300 hard disks were taken and examined from a random selection of PC’s purchased at computer fairs.

Amazingly the data that was still held on the hard drives was staggering; confidential military information, NHS records and personal data from a well know auction site.
