500,000 trees cut down to create the Sunday newspapers in the USA

Sure, trees have nothing to do with recycling IT, but what the number does show is the scale in which the human race consumes products.

Approximately 500,000 trees give their life each week in order to bring you the Sunday newspaper! Yes Half a Million and that’s every Sunday every week in the US, in total over 25 Million Trees a year!

The next question is how much of that newspaper is actually recycled? we cannot find accurate information but we do know that only around 25% of household waste is recycled in the US.

The issue of scale is important as everyone who receives a newspaper will during the course of a year throw away some unwanted IT equipment, a mobile phone, adaptor, SIM Card, printer, PC etc

Compared to IT, newspapers are relatively simple to recycle so how much of that old IT equipment is actually being recycled? In reality we suspect it is a very low percentage.
