What is document Imaging?

Document imaging is the practice of using equipment like scanners to take a digital picture of information contained in another form (usually paper or microfilm). There are many advantages to converting paper to digital files through the use of document imaging.

The main advantages of Document Imaging are:

Frequent retrieval – This is where you need to get hold of a document that is in storage, if it is a paper document someone has to physically go and get it, which is expensive!  If it has been scanned then the document can be accessed online in seconds.

Document sharing – This is where several people want to look at the same document at the same time or in a meeting scenario, no one person is waiting for another.

Search and retrieval – This is where you paper documents now scanned, become a real live online library allowing your to search and locate file, just as if you’re using a search engine.
