What would Brexit mean for the UK’s Green Objectives?

brexit

The UK, like other member states, must hit a target of recycling 50 per cent of its household waste by 2020.

This is an EU dictate and one that companies such as SDR are working towards.  SDR works to recycle as much as possible from old IT equipment, an ever growing element of Household Waste.

The EU is also considering imposing targets requiring the UK and most other EU nations to recycle 65 per cent of their rubbish by 2030.

Seven EU nations which are significantly behind on their 2020 targets could be given more lenient 2030 goals.

The UK Government has expressed concerns about the proposed 2030 targets so perhaps the pressure on UK recycling will drop?

Not in our view, we at SDR believe that the UK will need to become World Leaders in Recycling and perhaps without some of the additional legislation from the EU, may now be able to get on with the the job and recycle more than ever.

The EU has been and is an excellent forum for waste control and we at SDR hope that the EU goals will be exceeded by the UK.
