Recently, this was classified as the largest waste stream in the EU.  Industrial mining can cause lasting environmental and socioeconomic problems due to careless handling of the materials that result in acid or alkaline drainage and leaching of heavy metals into water and soil.

The frustration is that all metals can be recycled so in a modern world we should be able to :

1. Reduce the amount of mining by recycling more and

2. Reduce the amount of dangerous chemicals entering the water tables by again, recycling more!
