What does PCB mean within the WEEE Directive

PCB2

Capacitors that contain “polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) MUST BE RECYCLED!

PCB also can stand for Printed Circuit Board, but in recycling terms we thinks of them as polychlorinated biphenyls.

It is true that new equipment does not use this type of technology but it still can be found in equipment that has been purchased before 1986.

Typically, large capacitors were used for power factor correction and similar duties. Small capacitors were used in fluorescent and other discharge luminaires and with fractional horse-power motors of the type used in domestic and light industrial electrical equipment.

This type of equipment tends to havelong lifecycles so Capacitors must be recycled properly. Below is a list of trade names for the PCB’s that have been used.

ACECLOR, APIROLIO, AROCLOR B, ASBESTOL, ASKAREL, DIACHLOR, DISCONOL, DUCONOL, DYKANOL ,ELEMEX, KANECLOR, KENNECHLOR, NO-FLAMOL, PERMATOL, PHENOCLOR.
