Product lifecycles reduced

A new study commissioned by the German Environment Agency (Umweltbundesamt – UBA) has revealed that the lifespans of electrical and electronic appliances are becoming shorter, with the amount of appliances replaced within five years due to defects increasing from 3.5 per cent in 2004 to 8.3 per cent in 2013.

The fact is that our culture is that of a disposable society, we no longer repair items we just replace, this puts the issue of recycling at the forefront.

If we are no longer going to repair electronic items, then we as consumers must make sure that once obsolete they are recycled.

Especially as items are getting smaller and can easily be dropped into household and business general waste, rather than going through the proper process.
