SEPA Probe Leads To WEEE Export Fine

SEPA officers have levied a fine on a Glasgow businessman, Henry Chukwu, Director of logistics firm Favour Limited, after finding him guilty of attempting to export waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) to Nigeria. The sentence was handed out on Jan 5th 2017. SEPA officers inspected the shipment in May 2014 after the container was returned to Scotland from Tilbury for being suspected to contain WEEE items. Under the Transfrontier Shipment of Waste Regulations 2007, it is illegal to export certain WEEE items. The shipment had a total of 103 appliances determined to be waste. The export of waste electrical equipment to Africa can lead to major environmental problems and can harm human health.
