Top 5 HIPAA Violations

We know HIPAA is a US standard but our Data Protection Act follows a similar thread, so below are the top 10 ways in which data is breached in the NHS:-

  1. Lost or stolen Devices (remember a memory card is a “device” stacked full of data, as is a mobile phone)
  2. Hacking, use of poor passwords always opens the doors to hackers
  3. Employee Dishonesty, how many thousands are employed in the World’s health industries.
  4. Improper disposal, this is a big part of what we do at Secure Data Recycling
  5. Third Party Disclosure, this is where data is passed to sub-contractors without proper control

Our advise is to make sure you have spoken to a company such as Secure Data Recycling and set up and implemented your data management program.
