UNEP States that 90% of Electronic Waste is Illegally traded!

UNEP or United Nations Environment Program has estimated that an incredible 90% of the worlds electrical and electronic waste is being traded or dumped illegally every year.

In its ‘Waste Crimes, Waste Risks: Gaps and Challenges in Meeting the Global Waste Challenge’ report, released yesterday (12 May) at the Conference of Parties (COP) climate event in Geneva, UNEP estimates that between 60 and 90 per cent of the 41 million tonnes of WEEE produced each year is illegally traded or dumped.

At Secure Data Recycling we find this staggering, as we spend hours taking every piece of electrical and electronic equipment we receive into our own facility, either repairing it for resale or breaking it down into material parts for recycling.

Our aim is to achieve a ZERO landfill target!

It is incredibly frustrating to realise that so much electrical waste is not being treated correctly, when we have proved here at Secure Data Recycling that with a little effort and a lot of expertise, most of the materials in an electric or electronic device CAN BE RECYCLED!
